Low back pain Yoga and Low Back Health

Saturday, Jan 27
3:00 - 4:30 pm

Take this 10-second quiz! Do you...

  • Practice yoga because you have or have had low back pain?
  • Avoid yoga for the very same reason?
  • Have a back ailment such as osteopenia, osteoporosis, or herniated discs, and want to be sure that you practice yoga safely?
  • Have a healthy lower back and want to keep it that way?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then join Kathleen Conlon Hinge, Director of Yoga Shivaya and 500-hour certified yoga teacher, and Lawrence Ruck, DC, Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner, for a workshop on yoga and the health of your lower back. In a format that combines instruction and practice, you will:

  • Learn common causes of pain, and posture "Do's and Don'ts."
  • Practice the "Core Four" exercises that safely reduce pain and promote stability and strength.
  • Learn posture and exercise options that are customized for your body.
  • Practice and receive coaching from an experienced yoga instructor and an experienced chiropractor to be sure you're "doing it right."
  • Leave with a sequence of exercises that you can do daily to promote your ongoing lower back health.

This workshop is open to all levels of yoga experience. Please bring a yoga mat (if you have one, otherwise you may borrow one of ours), and a notebook and pen/pencil to record your insights.

Dynamic Gentle Yoga with Rudy Peirce:Rudy Peirce
Vata Soothing Yoga Practice

Saturday, Feb 3
2:00 - 5:00 pm

Winter is dry, cold, and windy. When your mind is overly active with thoughts, your body fatigued from moving too quickly, or stiff from the shift to dry, colder weather, a vata soothing practice brings warmth, stability and suppleness.

Ayurveda is the Vedic science of living a life of optimal health and healing, in tune with Mother Nature. Ayurveda ascribes three constitutional types: vata, pitta and kapha. Vata governs movement in the body, the nervous system and elimination. We all have some degree of each of the three constitutions. When vata is out of balance, symptoms such as digestive distress, dry skin, achy joints, anxiety, low energy, and irregular, insufficient sleep patterns begin to set in.

A vata soothing yoga sequence gives our bodies and minds the opportunity to manifest the relaxation response—a key to optimal health, as it can help lower the risk of heart disease, obesity, anxiety, depression, and other stress-related diseases.

Experience a practice that nourishes your vata constitution.
Learn ways to find balance in your yoga practice.
Learn ayurvedic tips to boost your resilience.

Cost is $40 if you register by Jan 20; $45 if you wait. Use the button below to reserve your space using PayPal or major credit card:
