Yin Yoga and Acupuncture promote health and well-being by enhancing the flow of Life Force (chi, prana) through the body. Yin Yoga does this by placing the body into a sequence of particular shapes, and then holding these shapes passively for several minutes each. Each Yin pose creates a constructive tension within a different region of the body that, upon release of the pose, causes chi to flood the region. Acupuncture enhances the flow of chi by painlessly inserting needles at particular points in the body where the chi pathways (meridians) flow.

This gentle practice is suitable to all levels. We begin with Yin Yoga and finish with an extended relaxation (savasana) during which the acupuncture is applied. We'll focus specifically on the Liver and Gallbladder Meridians, as these are the dominant energy meridians for our body's health in springtime. Benefits include detoxification and enhanced digestion, leading to improved overall energy flow and a more easygoing disposition, more balanced emotions, and greater flexibility and adaptability to change. Kathleen Conlon Hinge, Director, founded Yoga Shivaya with the philosophy that growth and flexibility happen only with compassionate acceptance of our bodies as they are.  What's more, by practicing compassion for ourselves, our hearts naturally open to greater compassion for others, bringing healing and peace into the world.  She has been practicing yoga since 2002 and teaching since 2007.  Kathleen is a Kripalu Yoga Instructor certified at the 500-hour level.  She is also a Reiki Master who offers and teaches Reiki at the studio.

Christina Wallace, L. Ac., completed a masters program in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the American Institute of Alternative Medicine in Columbus, Ohio in 2012. She then interned at the Beijing Integrated Hospital of Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China, before returning to the U.S. to work in private practice for four years. She is nationally certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as well as professionally licensed by the New York State Educational Board.

Come with a Friend, a Date, a Sibling, Parent or Child…you name it!  It needn’t be someone who’s flexible or done yoga before.  This is an all levels yoga class and we will incorporate some relaxing Thai Yoga Massage moves as well. An open mind and willingness to try new things are all that’s needed.  Partner Yoga is easy and FUN!!!

Drop-in for $20 per person (YS members may use your pass) but please RSVP to let us know that you’ll be coming!  We’ll need at least 3 couples to make it happen – so, please don’t wait to RSVP!

Her classes combine her training in various disciplines, including Vinyasa, Restorative and Therapeutic yoga. She also has developed a love for essential oils and their healing properties. She utilizes essential oils in classes to promote serenity and enhance well-being. Come and experience a unique combination of Restorative Yoga & Reiki. Breathe and let go into cushions and props that are positioned to support the body in releasing tension and stress. As you relax, you’ll be offered Reiki, a gentle, hands-on technique that channels life force energy through the subtle body to promote deep relaxation, balance and well-being. This practice encourages the nervous system to quiet and allows for healing on a physical and emotional level.

I enjoyed it immensely.  I was so grateful for the safe space that was created and for the wonderfully calm and peaceful energy that filled the room.  It was the most perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Jody Raso, is a Social Worker, Reiki Master and Certified Yoga Instructor. She created this class after completing Restorative Yoga Teacher Training in 2011. The combination of both the healing practices of Restorative Yoga and Reiki allows the body and mind to quiet encouraging balance in the nervous system.
